what's been going on with me

ok, so if anyone out there is still reading this blog after my abysmal lack of entries, here is an update.

good news: i'm pregnant. bad news: i'm miserable. i have lost considerable weight and throw up at least once a day. and while i do spend 60-70% of my waking hours thinking about my stomach and food, i can assure you this is completely devoid of pleasure.

this is a sad state of affairs for someone who loves to eat as much as me.

most days the only thing that sounds remotely palatable is a vanilla jell-o pudding pop, which we all know is tragically off the market. curse bill cosby.

there have been some wondrous days when i can actually eat something worthwhile, like a couple sundays ago i was able to fully enjoy a taste of belgium waffle with strawberries while visiting findlay market. but alas, these days are few and far between, and it seems like every good day is followed by a really awful day (hmm...like today). it's a very different experience to, as my friend mike puts it, eat to live rather than live to eat. it's even difficult right now for me to tell if i'm hungry or if i'm nauseated.

yes, i know in the end it will all be worthwhile. i just sure as hell hope it's twins because i'm going to have a difficult time convincing myself to go through this again.

oh congratulations. Both of my pregnancies started with terrible nausea and it was especially difficult for me because food is where it's at! You can make pudding pops! Google it. YUM!

My first pregnancy, I lived on instant mashed potatoes! And my second, I couldn't eat anything without gagging. The only thing that worked for me is eating tiny bites all day long and never letting my stomach get too empty. Still felt nauseated and gagged in the middle of sentences all day long (charming) but it kept me from wishing for death.

Congratulations! Very sorry to hear it's making you so sick, though. Here's hoping you feel better and are back to eating soon. Take care, mama.

re: jello pudding pops...try the meijer on harrison in dent! that's where i always got them. haven't checked in a few months but they might still be there.

also, if you're into chocolate or fruity flavors, try phillyswirls brand swirl sticks, the texture is really similar to the pudding pops. they're also at meijer.

Congratulations! Think of how wonderful it will be to enjoy your favorite meal once the baby is born, too... that will get you through!

lnwn-i agree with the tiny bites all day long. that seems to help keep the nausea at bay.

christin- i had heard there were pudding pops out there somewhere, just had never come across them. thanks for the head's up!

I don't know if you remember me (Liz introduced us at the cincinnati imports westside pubcrawl), but I'm pregnant too and also due around the same time you are (8/25/10).

Congratulations! 2010 is a good year to have a baby :)

Yes! I love kate spade and plan on implanting the same values upon my unborn child (or at least getting my hands on a k.s. diaper bag).
